Located near the Sheung Wan area on Hong Kong island, ibis Hong Kong Central and Sheung Wan is the second hotel under the Ibis family in Hong Kong.
Room with a view
The hotel is located in a pretty convenient area and the guests’ rooms come with the standing shower, in-room safe, mini fridge and writing desk. For the room size, it is considerably spacious at 17 m² (183 sq.ft.) for a land-scarce city like Hong Kong. Each room comes with a queen-size bed or two single bed, timber flooring, a 3m high ceiling, 32″ Sony LCD TV, WIFI Internet access, coffee/tea making facilities, mini fridge, in-room safe.
For the room which I have got upgraded to – Standard Room Harbour view; it has a large floor to ceiling window panel which allows you to have a breathtaking view of HK’s spectacular skyline at ICC Tower and other skyscrapers across the harbour. The ICC Tower is also home to the well-known ICC Music and Light show which is shown nightly between 7:45 pm and 9:00 pm local time. (More about that in HK trip – Part 1 article.)
Nearby amenities and F&B
Wellcome, Food Centre, Coffee Shops 茶餐厅, Fitness First, Starbucks, Mannings, Money changers, HSBC atm
Western Market, Seafood Market, The Peak, Mid-Level escalator, Causeway Bay
Tramway and MTR
The hotel has the Queen St tram stop right outside the door, and only a 5 min walk to the HK-Macau Ferry Terminal and 8 min to MTR.
Airport Express – to and from HKIA
There is a free shuttle bus from Hong Kong station to ibis Hong Kong and Sheung Wan. Look out for the bus service H2.
When I first step into the hotel, it reminded me of the other ibis Hotel on Hong Kong Island – ibis Northpoint. As both hotels have their reception at the higher floors, both also have rooms that overlook the harbour.
The difference between this stay at the hotel and my previous stay is the hotel room size. This appears to be slightly more spacious than the one at ibis North Point and the location is more accessible with a lot more food choices within the vicinity, however, during the evening it can get a little too quiet. Otherwise, this is a good location to stay if you are also considering a day trip by ferry to Macau or the visit the islands.
Note: The guest room assigned to me was an upgraded room as part of the membership benefits from the leClub Accorhotels Gold status.
