Chef’s Dinner Set Menu @ Prego Fairmont Singapore

Had a dinner for two arranged at Prego some weeks ago. While I recall the time which I first visited Prego, which was some 10 years ago. The restaurant interior and decor has not really changed much through the past decade. While the restaurant is well known for its Italian food offerings and is a participating restaurant of The Far Dining card. There seem to be some changes to the over experience, more on that towards the end of the post.

The restaurant menu for 2017 is available online. For the dinner that evening we decided to opt for the Chef’s Dinner Set. The set comes with a Choice of Antipasti, Primi Piatti, Chef’s Daily Special and a Dessert priced at SGD$69 before taxes.

There is also a pretty interesting variety of pizza choices from the usual Pizza thin crust to that of gluten free option. We opted for the Prego Pizza – Mozzarella, Ham, Mushroom, Parmesan, Sundried Tomato and Fresh Cream. Every meal also comes with the cold bread which is served prior to the main course.

As for the alcohol drinks, there is a pretty wide selection of wine and alcohol beverages on the menu. We opted for the Buccia Nera Guarniente Chianti – which has a taste profile characterised by red and black cherry characters, along with savoury notes, wild herbs and spice, supported by racy acidity and well-structured tannins. And it so happens to be an organic while too.

Afterthoughts

Food service at the restaurant pares in comparison to a decade ago. It could have been due to high traffic and it seems full house during dinner hours. At the same time, the birthday cake which was pre-arranged never came.While the food standard seems reasonably on par to years back, but the smaller servings is a good turn off. At the same time, the restaurant charges SGD3.00 per person for “Artisan” water too.

It will be unwise to visit it unless you really feel a strong reason to give Prego a visit for the nostalgia flavour of the yesteryears.
